Chemical Engineering University And Department wide Awards
Jason Conrad ('05), Katie Krasnova ('05), and Lindsay Morgan ('05) were named "Distinguished Student Scholars" in the 2005 Spring Honors Convocation.
Jason Conrad ('05), won the Florida Tech Outstanding Senior Award in the 2005 Florida Tech Honors Convocation. Jason was recognized primarily for his academic excellence and his active involvement in many Florida Tech societies, including the AIChE Chapter and the ACS Chapter that he chaired, and other chapters that he chaired or served as an officer. Among his many accomplishments mentioned at the Honors Convocation Ceremony were the 1st regional and 3rd national places of two of his Chem-E Car teams in the last three years, as well as a prestigious national award for a research project he conducted in summer 2004 for the REU program at Clemson University
Stephen Anthony(04), Jason Conrad (05), and Yekaterina Krasnova (05) were named "Distinguished School Scholars" in the 2004 Spring Honors Convocation.
Stephen Anthony (03), Ayanna Bernard (03), Daniel E. Heath (03) and Dustin Phelps (03) were named "Distinguished Student Scholars" in the 2003 Spring Honors Convocation.
Ali Sultan Al-Mansoori (02) and Chinping Chng ('02) were named "Distinguished Student Scholars" in the 2002 Spring Honors Convocation.
Chinping Chng ('02), Anne-Marie Johnston ('01), Andrea King ('01), Bruce Locuson ('01), and Frank Trevino('02) were honored with Outstanding Student Leaders Awards at the 2001 Florida Tech Student Leadership Celebration. These Chemical Engineering Students earned 5 of the 15 Leadership Awards given to Florida Tech Juniors and Seniors (33%), although the Chemical Engineering Student body represents a mere 2 to 3% of all undergraduate students at Florida Tech!!!
Ali Al-Mansouri ('02), Chinping Chng ('02), Philip Cobb ('01), Michele Lassonde ('01), and Andrew Smith ('02) were named "Distinguished Student Scholars" in the 2001 Spring Honors Convocation. This made the Chemical Engineering Department have 5 out of the 67 honored students, therefore making it the most honored department in the University.
Tyler Schmidt ('00) earned the Potter Award for Excellence in Physics at the 2000 Florida Tech Honors Convocation.
Ken Melero won the 1999 Florida Tech Co-op Student of the Year Award.
Teri Robertson ('99) and Richard Daniel ('99) were the Valedictorians of the Florida Tech Class of 1999, as they were the only two students to be honored by President Weaver at the 1999 Spring Commencement Ceremonies with the Florida Tech Distinguished Graduate Awards.
Three Chemical Engineering students, Patricia Kelly ('98), David Scott ('99), and Sabina Winters ('98), were among the 16 Florida Tech students included in the 1998 edition of "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges." Campus nominating committees and editors of the annual directory have included the names of these students based on their academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success.
Jason Bean ('01) was among the 1998 Florida Tech ROTC Scholarship winners. Jason earned a $16,000 annual Army ROTC scholarship as a "three-year advance designee." He was selected for his high academic standing, good moral character, and officer potential.
Chinping Chng ('02) was named a "Distinguished Student Scholar " in the 2000 Florida Tech Spring Honors Convocation Ceremonies.
Four Chemical Engineering students were named "Distinguished Student Scholars" in the 1999 Florida Tech Honor's Concovation. The honored students were Philip Cobb ('01), Richard Daniel ('99), David Scott ('99), and Teri Swenson ('99).This made the Chemical Engineering Department have 4 out of the 77 honored students. It had more winners than any other department.
Teri Swenson ('99), received one of three Florida Tech Student Ambassadors Scholarship Awards of $500 for 1998.

The honored students were Richard Daniel ('99), Shawn Davis ('98), Nitesh Melwani ('98), and David Scott ('99). That made Chemical Engineering the most honored Program in the University, having one distinguished student scholar in every 23 undergraduate students.
Philip Cobb ('00), received the 1998 D.F. Othmer Sophomore Academic Excellence Award, presented annually to one sophomore student in every Chemical Engineering Program. Included with the award is a copy of "Perry's", the most popular and voluminous Handbook for Chemical Engineers.
Shawn Davis ('98) was among the Valedictorians of the Florida Tech Class of 1998, as he was honored with one of three Florida Tech Distinguished Graduate Awards at the 1998 Spring Commencement Ceremonies. The award was presented to Shawn by the President of the University, Dr. Lynn E. Weaver.
In the 1998 AIChE Student Chapter Officers' Elections, David Scott ('99) was voted President, Richard Cannyn ('00) Vice President, David Bernstein ('00) Treasurer, and Philip Cobb ('00) Secretary of the Chapter.

Spyros Nomikos ('97) won 1st place among undergraduate students and 2nd place overall, in the published paper presentation contest of the annual Sigma Xi research competition held at Florida Tech. His published paper was entitled "Probing protein dielectric constants through temperature reduction potential profiles". The presented research was the first to develop an indirect method of determining internal protein dielectric constants via experimental and computer modeling data. The work was performed during the summer of 1995 at the Florida Tech Chemistry Department with Professor E.T. Smith. The article has been published in the Journal of Bioinorganic Chemistry, August 1996.
Debbie Goss ('99) was elected Vice-President of the Student Government in the 1997-1998 Florida Tech elections. Nitesh Melwani ('98) and Abdulaziz Abubshait ('98) were elected Student Activity Fee Committee (SAFC) Members at Large. Patty Kelly ('98) and Myneeka Cook ('00) were two of three Student Government Secretaries. Richard Cannyn ('00) was elected to the Student Government P.R. Chair position. Chemical Engineering is clearly one of the flag-bearing programs in student leadership at Florida Tech.
Swathi Nakkana ('99) won the $5,000 Florida Tech Faculty Senate Scholarship Award for the academic year 1996-97.
