About Us

Student Counseling Center

College can be a complex time for students, characterized by growth and change.  While there are many benefits of advanced education, it also brings with it many challenges that can feel overwhelming.  The student counseling center of Florida Institute of Technology can help students learn how to work through life's challenges, heal emotional pain, and develop the necessary skills to lead healthy and balanced lives.

Student Counseling Center Staff

The staff at the student counseling center of Florida Institute of Technology consists of a Director, Staff Psychologists, and an Administrative Assistant. The center also serves as one of the advanced practicum sites for graduate students within the School of Psychology & Liberal Arts who are pursuing their doctorate in clinical psychology.

Robyn Tapley, Psy.D. - Director - Assistant Professor 

Dr. Tapley received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She received her Master of Science Degree and Doctorate from the Florida Institute of Technology. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the University of Memphis, Center for Counseling, Learning, and Testing. Dr. Tapley is a Licensed Psychologist in the State of Florida. She serves as the Director of the student counseling center, managing the center’s operations and the practicum training program, serving on a variety of campus-wide committees, providing consultation, supervision, and clinical services, and engaging in outreach efforts to the campus community. Dr. Tapley is also an Assistant Professor within the College of Psychology and Liberal Arts, and serves as one the Faculty Advisors for the campus chapter of Active Minds. In addition, she serves on a variety of boards and committees at both the local and state level.

Lauren Mazur, Psy.D. - Staff Psychologist 

Dr. Mazur received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Ball State University. She received her Master of Science Degree and Doctorate from the Florida Institute of Technology. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at Pennsylvania State University’s Counseling and Psychological Services.  Dr. Mazur is a Licensed Psychologist in the State of Florida.  She serves as a Staff Psychologist at the student counseling center, providing clinical services, supervising clinical psychology doctoral students, and providing training outreach to the campus community.  Clinical interests include providing trauma-informed care, working with individuals in the LGBTQ+ community, addressing relationship and sexuality concerns, teaching mindfulness/acceptance, and working with identity exploration and development.  

Debra Sloane, Psy.D., BCBA - Staff Psychologist - Group Therapy Coordinator

Dr. Sloane received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from the University of Florida. She received her Master of Science Degree and Doctorate from the Florida Institute of Technology. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the University of South Florida, Counseling Center for Human Development.  Dr. Sloane is a Licensed Psychologist, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, and a Certified Sex Therapist in the State of Florida. She serves as a Staff Psychologist and the Group Therapy Coordinator at the student counseling center, providing clinical services, managing the group therapy program, supervising clinical psychology doctoral students, and providing training and outreach to the campus community.  Clinical interests include working with issues related to Autism Spectrum Disorders and/or learning differences, addressing relationship concerns and sexuality issues, managing depression/anxiety, and promoting wellness.  In addition, she serves on the Community Advisory Board of the Florida Institute of Technology’s Scott Center for Autism Treatment and Research and is an active member of the American Group Psychotherapy Association.

Nancy Quintero - Administrative Assistant

Ms. Quintero serves as the Administrative Assistant of the student counseling center, providing customer service assistance to those who make contact with the center and supporting the center’s daily operations. She has many years of experience in the customer service field, utilizing her skills in both educational and company settings.
