The biological sciences are concerned with living organisms, especially the chemical and physical processes supporting life and the interactions of living organisms with their environment. The biological sciences programs at Florida Tech are composed of a diverse and interactive group of scientists and students whose work spans the entire breadth of biology. Biological sciences faculty number around 16 and the student body includes 60 master's and doctoral students and approximately 300 undergraduate majors.
While many other research universities contain specialized and isolated departments based on biological subdisciplines, we have assembled a spectrum of experts who excel within specialized areas, yet are committed to an interdisciplinary approach to the study of biology.
The biology programs are housed in the F.W. Olin Life Sciences Building (LSB). LSB contains eight teaching labs, 12 modern research labs, a 16-workstation computer facility, and an electron microscopy suite. The building also includes animal care facilities for housing small mammals and reptiles and a temperature-controlled 800 sq. ft greenhouse. The department has excellent teaching facilities with a state-of-the-art multimedia auditorium and classroom.
