The mission of the Biomedical and Chemical Engineering and Sciences (BCES) Department is to provide a safe working environment in the pursuit of excellence in education, research and innovation in the fields of biomedical science and engineering, chemistry and chemical engineering. The attainment of these goals is achieved by: 1) offering undergraduate and graduate level curricula that provide students with the opportunity to obtain the required knowledge, technical and communication skills, and a thorough understanding of the associated safety, ethical, social and economic responsibilities in their respective fields; 2) engaging in internationally recognized research that will increase knowledge and lead to technological innovations; and 3) providing an atmosphere that stimulates intellectual curiosity and encourages creative interactions among faculty and students. Success in the accomplishment of these goals will equip students with the capacity to thrive in diverse professional roles in research institutions, global industries and local communities.
Welcome to the Biomedical and Chemical Engineering and Sciences (BCES) Department at the Florida Institute of Technology, and thank you for your interest in our programs. The BCES Department encompasses a variety of interdisciplinary fields that are currently in high demand thanks to significant strides in research related to chemistry, medicine, and technology. The BCES Department is home to a broad range of specialties, including:
The undergraduate Biomedical and Chemical Engineering programs are fully accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), the Chemistry Research Program is fully accredited by the American Chemical Society (ACS) and all of the programs in the BCES Department are fully accredited by the Southern Associations of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
The BCES Department is committed to providing undergraduate and graduate students with outstanding educational opportunities in both the theoretical development and laboratory application of state-of-the-art technology to further the advancement of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering and Sciences. Each of the programmatic areas (Biomedical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry and Chemical Engineering) offer B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. The BCES faculty come from a variety of academic, industrial and government backgrounds and provide the foundation for academic excellence in all of the programs housed in the BCES Department. Many of these faculty are internationally renowned researchers and have obtained prestigious research grants from government agencies and corporations, published articles in well-respected journals, and authored books.
Students in the BCES Department at Florida Tech have significant educational advantages that come with small class sizes and direct access to the faculty and administration. The BCES Department provides a solid infrastructure combined with a variety of resources to provide a superior educational experience. The interdisciplinary nature of the educational and research activities housed within the BCES Department allow students to experience a broad range of approaches to learning and problem solving related to fields in Medicine, Chemistry and Biology.
