Faculty Profiles

Dopira, Elizabeth

Instructor of Music, Director of Choral and String Studies, School of Arts and Communication

In the past two years of leading the Concert Choir and String Ensemble at FIT, I have watched the Music Department grow and flourish. It is truly a pleasure to work with such intelligent and dedicated students. Our primary goal has been to provide a musical outlet that allows students to showcase their talent and have fun. We have built a program that not only serves the students and the university, but also the community. FIT Music is becoming a known and respected institution here on the Space Coast. Our students have acted as stewards to several non-profit organizations and the response has been phenomenal. The audiences this past year have continued to grow and so have the number of students joining the ensembles. Students are able to interact with each other outside of a lab or classroom. For many of them, it has become a great social outlet where they have made lifelong friends. Music has a way of connecting people and bringing them together. Florida Tech has recognized this and continues to give us the support we need to bring our program into the future. I am overcome with excitement about our plans for the Music Department. Our new facilities will give us a place to call home and a place for the students to gather, practice, and socialize. The Performing Arts Series will once again bring world-class talent to the students and our community. The renovation of the Gleason Center for Performing Arts will offer our department a proper venue to showcase these truly talented young people. The addition of the Minor in Music will offer students a way to expand their musical knowledge beyond their instrumental studies. I am honored to be part of this exciting time and to be able to share my thoughts, voice, and love of music with Florida Institute of Technology.
