Personal Overview

After receiving my B.Sc. in Applied Physics from University of Tehran (Iran) in 2005, I started my optics and photonics career at the Laser and Plasma Research Institute (Tehran, Iran) and graduated with a M.Sc. I then moved to the US to obtain a Ph.D. in Optical Science and Engineering at the University of New Mexico. My research was performed under the direction of Prof. Jean-Claude Diels, studying infrared laser filamentation and ultrafast laser pulse propagation and interaction with gases. I then joined the Laser and Plasma Laboratory (LPL), led by Prof. Martin Richardson, within the Townes Laser Institute at the University of Central Florida (Orlando, FL), in 2015 as a research scientist, pursuing research on laser filamentation, leading the effort to transition the fundamental knowledge of laser filaments to their application for sensing and directed energy.

My research here at FIT encompasses fundamental areas, such as the ultrafast interaction of high power femtosecond lasers with gases (plasma formation) and aerosols (clouds), and applications, extending to stand-off sensing (polarization-controlled supercontinuum generation for white light LIDAR) and beam engineering (inter-filament interaction within transient far-IR and MW guiding photonic structures).
