Personal Overview

Dr. Cusick is Director of the FAA Center of Excellence for General Aviation at Florida Institute of Technology.  A former U.S. Navy Captain, flight instructor and Naval Aviator, he is an experienced pilot with multi-engine, instrument and helicopter flight ratings.  A subject matter expert in aviation safety, he is the lead author of a recent textbook entitled Commercial Aviation Safety, Sixth Edition from McGraw-Hill. 

Extensive experience for over 35 years supporting high technology aerospace progams.  As Director of the FAA Center of Excellence for General Aviation, he is engaged as principal research investigator for multiple FAA aviation research projects.    He is a frequent speaker at national safety conferences and for the FAA Safety Team.  Memberships include the National Business Aviation Association, Helicopter Association International, Aircraft Owners and Pilot's Association, and other aviation safety organizations.

Professional Experience

Extensive experience in all areas of aviation safety including compliance with US FAR and International standards.  Experience includes Safety Management Systems (SMS), aircraft accident investigations, auditing, quality assurance and aviation maintenance practices and procedures.
