Kimberly B. Demoret, Ph.D., P.E., is responsible for the Aerospace Engineering Capstone Design curriculum at the Florida Institute of Technology. Prior to joining the university in 2015, she spent nine years working at Kennedy Space Center on development of launch systems in support of NASA's space exploration goals. She also spent 20 years as an officer in the US Air Force working in many fields, including space launch, aerospace ground test, flight dynamics research, and system acquisition. Her thesis and dissertation addressed vibration suppression techniques appropriate for aerospace applications, including constrained layer damping and the introduction of local modes in large space structures. Her current area of research is Engineering Education.

- Awarded NASA Exceptional Engineering Achievement Medal and Space Flight Awareness “Silver Snoopy” Award for improving safety and reliability of launch hardware designs. Wrote ~600 pages of mission assurance documentation, engineering analyses and trade studies.
- Wrote the trade study used to decide NASA's approach to developing the Mobile Launcher (ML) for the new Space Launch System (SLS), showing it was technically feasible and more cost effective to modify the newly fabricated Constellation ML instead of modifying a Shuttle MLP or fabricating an all-new launcher.
- Developed Statements of Work to redesign the Ares ML structure to support the new SLS launcher, and worked with 33 NASA design teams to define installation requirements for Ground Support Equipment required for launch- overall effort estimated at $175 million.
- Supervised 10 engineers at NASA's Launch Equipment Test Facility (LETF). Led modernization efforts and worked with customers to design tests for ground equipment and flight hardware.

- Principal architect and Program Manager for $160,000,000 effort to upgrade and sustain a worldwide data acquisition system for monitoring nuclear test ban treaty compliance.
- Developed initial acquisition concept, managed source selection, then successfully executed the program for its first year. Supervised 11-member team and worked closely with other functional representatives to successfully execute these efforts.
Skills/Knowledge Acquired: Expanded source selection/program management expertise and advocacy skills. Increased technical insight on seismic monitoring and data collection systems. Held Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmentalized Information (TS/SCI) clearance.
1994-1998 Laboratory Branch Chief Vibration, Acoustics, and Sonic Fatigue Branch

- Supervised 20-member branch and $50 million acoustic test facility. Directed research and development on vibration and acoustic loading, material corrosion, and other causes of structural failures in aerospace vehicles.
- Mentored young officers in performing research on adaptive/flexible wing concepts and vibration suppression designs appropriate for space and aircraft applications.
- Integrated in-house and contracted research efforts to add structural damping to aircraft jet engines after high cycle fatigue failures grounded the USAF fighter aircraft fleet.
