Student health insurance is mandatory for full-time undergraduate (12 or more credits) and graduate (9 or more credits) students, including those enrolled in English as a Second Language (ESL) courses.  All eligible registered Melbourne campus based students are automatically enrolled in the Florida Institute of Technology Student Health Insurance plan. Online students and students attending classes through Extended Studies or Florida Tech Online do not meet the eligibility requirements for the Florida Institute of Technology Student Health Insurance plan.

Both Domestic and International students may apply to waive university-sponsored insurance by providing proof of coverage by clicking the link below and providing proof of insurance coverage.  Please have your insurance information available to complete a waiver form. Please be aware, the deadline to successfully waive the Florida Institute of Technology Student Health Insurance plan is 5:00 P.M. ET, Friday, January 17, 2020.

International students:  Exceptions may be granted only if you have an insurance plan that meets very strict requirements in order for you to qualify for the waiver.

  • Claims Agent in the United States
  • Claims payable in United State dollars.
  • The insurance company if licensed to do business in the state of Florida.
  • Coverage period: 52 continuous weeks or for the period of time you will be attending Florida Tech.
  • Unlimited aggregate cap per illness or injury.
  • Deductible should not exceed $250 annually.
  • Basic benefits: room, board, hospital services, physician fees, ambulance, outpatient services fee paid at 80% or usual customary (UCR) fees after deductible is met.
  • Inpatient/outpatient prescription medications: Offers coverage
  • Must cover HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Must cover substance/alcohol rehabilitation treatment.
  • Repatriation: Unlimited (coverage to return remains to home country)
  • Medical Evacuation: Unlimited (if directed by the physician in charge to be medically necessary, the expenses of the patient to be transported back to his/her country accompanied by an escort.).
  • No exclusion for pre-existing conditions.


* International students must submit an insurance policy for review. Florida Tech cannot accept

  Coverage by an insurance company outside the United States.
