AIAA Student Chapter

The Florida Tech branch of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) provides a professionally recognized organization to students on campus for the collection of aerospace research, talks, tools, and activities. In addition, our branch hosts and sponsors various events including guest speakers, skill workshops, competitions, and professional networking events just to name a few. Money donated to our club will directly support us in paying for a variety of events we hold annually, including some of our highlighted ones below!

Spaceport America Cup

The Spaceport America Cup team takes on the challenge of sending a 4kg, 3U CubeSat-sized payload to 10,000 feet and recovering it safely. Students gain hands-on experience performing the design, analysis, and fabrication of a high-performance rocket. The design is thoroughly reviewed by competition organizers, and a technical report is written and presented to the other 150 teams from around the world.

Design, Build, Fly

In the Design, Build, Fly competition, teams of up to ten students develop an unmanned aerial vehicle that will carry out several “missions” around a flight path predetermined by the AIAA DBF Competition Officials. During the design process, each group is required to write a detailed report outlining their design methodology and rationale for choosing different designs. At the end of the academic year, the team competes in a national event against prestigious schools such as Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Stanford, MIT, and Georgia Tech.

AIAA Region II Student Conference

The Florida Tech branch of AIAA believes that participation in the Region II Conference is a highlight for our student members. We strive for students to take on the challenge of writing a formal technical paper where they share the work or research that they have committed great time and effort to throughout the year. Student papers that are accepted by the conference officials and university faculty are presented at the Region II Conference alongside a variety of prestigious schools and industry professionals.

Your support of AIAA is greatly appreciated and is making a great impact!
