An exciting new Florida Tech tradition has been born! Come join us each spring for The Annual Black In STEM Celebration at Florida Tech! The Annual Black In STEM Celebration was coordinated and hosted for the first time in Spring of 2022 by a group of four undergraduate students.
The Annual Black In STEM Celebration is a celebration of the unique experiences and contributions made by African-Americans to the various STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields. This event is meant to bring awareness to the accomplishments and experiences of African-Americans in various STEM fields, as the accomplishments of this demographic are often overlooked. At the Annual Black In STEM Celebration at Florida Tech, we aim to educate about the struggles African-Americans face in the STEM fields, while also uplifting the student-body and the surrounding community.
This event includes a Black In STEM Panel Q&A, where attendees will be able to listen to the first-hand experiences of African-American STEM professionals, and will have the opportunity to directly ask the panelists questions at the end of the mediated Q&A.
This event also includes a community market day, where a list of hand-selected Black-owned businesses from the local community will be selling various clothes, jewelry, hand-made candles & essential oils, waist beads, and so much more! Attendees will get to have a taste of the culture from locally-operated black-owned food trucks and restaurants selling soul food, Caribbean food, and more! Not to mention, there will be live entertainment!
