Formula SAE Club
Although there are many subsets of SAE including, Formula Baja, Formula Drag, Formula Combustion, and Formula Electric, the most prominent and active at Florida Tech is Formula Combustion (also known as Formula SAE). Formula SAE supplies students with a hands-on automotive experience that tests students engineering knowledge, building skills, and ingenuity. Formula SAE recruits students starting from their freshman year to expose them to applied engineering as soon as possible. In addition, Formula SAE is one of the most interdisciplinary projects on campus with students ranging from mechanical and aerospace engineering to marketing and entrepreneurship.
SAE, and specifically Formula SAE, is widely recognized by students and professionals around the world for its ability to bring great minds together. In many cases, involvement in this project will help students secure selective internships and jobs. To build a competitive race car, teams are required to use the knowledge learned inside and outside of the classroom. This includes computer-aided design, computational fluid dynamics, systems engineering, research skills, manufacturing, data analysis, teamwork, marketing, and racing. By donating to Formula SAE, you will be directly supporting next year’s car and sending the team to competition in Michigan.
The design and manufacturing of these vehicles consist of thousands of man-hours. We are fortunate enough to have access to many of the tools needed to complete this project, but since we are required to create a brand new car from scratch each year, our greatest limitation is our monetary funds. With this being said, we greatly rely on sponsorships and donations. Your contributions go directly towards financing some of the brightest engineering minds in the country and our drive to create the most competitive vehicle that we can.
