Aug. 4, 2014 – Launch fundraising for Rowing Center
Total Raised: $325,000
Florida Tech’s founder and first president, Dr. Jerome Keuper, established Florida Tech Crew in 1968. His vision was for rowing to be as successful at Florida Tech as it was at his alma mater, MIT.
Robert (Bob) Dunlap was the master mind behind the start-up of the rowing program. Recognized as the “Father of Florida Tech Crew,” he designed the first boathouse and arranged for the first eight-man shell, a used boat from Rollins College.
This vision has proven true with Florida Tech Crew capturing many national and regional championships. The program has also produced world class rowers who have competed internationally on elite teams and have become Olympians.
The amenities of a state-of-the-art facility will include the ability to accommodate greater roster sizes, an indoor erg room, an Olympic style weight room, a Room of Champions and the capacity to cater to events.
Florida Tech’s administration has made construction of a new Rowing Center one of its top priorities. The new Rowing Center will support recruiting, allow the teams to continue growing and achieve at a higher level.
Dr. Keuper’s vision for Florida Tech Crew continues with the new Rowing Center, which will be an asset to the Florida Tech community and the community as a whole.
