All students born on or after 1/1/57 need to provide proof of two MMRs—measles (Rubeola), German measles (Rubella)and mumps immunization.
The state of Florida requires every student living in a residence hall to receive immunizations for meningitis and hepatitis B or to formally decline by signing a waiver acknowledging the risks of acquiring these infections. The meningitis vaccine must be given after your 16th birthday.
Yes, most insurance policies, with the exception of Travelers Insurance, will cover the cost of vaccines. Check with your insurance company or health care provider.
These vaccines are available at the Holzer Health Center, the local health department and most health care provider offices.
All students arriving from a TB endemic area will be required to have a tuberculosis testing to determine if you have been exposed to Tuberculosis. The quantiferon gold is offered at the Holzer Health Center. This test is much more specific than the TB Skin test, which results in many false positives due to different factors, including the influence of the BCG vaccine. Anyone with a positive result will be required to have a Chest X Ray.
If you decide to bring us results of a Skin Test from another providers office, please be sure that the Test is measured specifically in millimeters, not just "Negative or Positive."
Endemic Areas include all of the areas of the world that are not listed here: North American Region: U.S.A., Canada, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Virgin Islands. European Region: Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany,Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, San Marino, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom. Western Pacific Region: American Samoa, Australia, New Zealand.
A valid record by the students health care provider or other school record is required which documents the test done within the first 3 months of starting school.
A blood test (titer) may also be submitted for MMR or Hepatitis B proof of immunity. This is generally not covered by insurance. If the blood test is drawn at the Holzer Health Center and is a covered service under your health insurance plan you may submit the receipt to your insurance company for reimbursement.
