6.8 Long-Term Disability Insurance

Policy

 

The university provides Long-Term Disability (LTD) Insurance at no cost to all benefit eligible employees. This coverage provides 60 percent of your base compensation, to a maximum of $2,000 per month, should you become disabled beyond the period covered by short-term disability. Long Term Disability payments will begin after benefits paid by short-term disability have been exhausted.

You have the option of purchasing, at your cost, an additional 7 percent of LTD coverage, to bring your total long-term coverage to 67 percent. This coverage has a maximum benefit of $14,000 per month. Sick, vacation, or any other leave may be used to supplement LTD payments to a maximum of 100 percent of your normal base pay, unless you are working during the disability period.
