In accordance with Florida Institute of Technology's mission, the Technology Support Center assists with the repair and maintenance of university-owned equipment. However, there may be special circumstances in which the Technology Support Center may assist with the repair and maintenance of faculty and staff personal computer equipment.
This policy defines the circumstances and special considerations that are taken into account when a decision is made to support a staff or faculty personal computer equipment.
This policy applies to all requests to service faculty or staff personal computer equipment
The Technology Support Center does not provide support for equipment that is not owned by the University.
Exceptions to this policy are made for personal computers that are used for on-campus support of university required activities. This exception is only made if the use of this equipment is caused by the lack of university required resources which prevents the person from completing their assigned duties. Before personal equipment is supported, a list of personal equipment including a description of its use and the serial number of the equipment must be sent to the Director of Information Technology for approval.
The Florida Institute of Technology will not install software licensed to the university on computers that are not owned by the university. Such actions would violate the terms of the agreement between software vendors and the university. Each faculty and staff may purchase one copy of an operating system or certain software applications for work-related use at home though the IT office. Software for personal use at home is not provided through the university, but through third-party vendors. Information regarding those vendors may be found under the software purchasing portion of the IT website.
