Our Mission

The mission of the Writers' Den is to help Florida Tech undergraduate and graduate students across the curriculum to improve their writing, which is an essential part of the learning process, and to increase their chances of academic and professional success. Our mission is to provide a dedicated place for students to work productively, generate ideas, and share research with peers and a supportive tutoring staff.

Our Services

Writing assistance is available for all Florida Tech students currently enrolled at the university. Online and in-person appointments may be set up for consultations and review sessions. 

Tutors work with students to improve writing assignments and projects, such as the following:

  • Paragraphs and essays
  • Lab reports
  • Research papers
  • Scholarship applications
  • Personal statements
  • Business proposals
  • Theses and dissertations
  • Journal articles
  • Résumés and cover letters
  • Other academic and professional document

Tutors deliver personalized, instructive analyses of the following topics:

  • Format
  • Citations and references
  • Grammar, mechanics
  • Sentence structure
  • Organization
  • Content

Writing assistance is available for undergraduate and graduate students.

The Writers' Den serves the following:

  • Traditional students who need help with writing assignments
  • International graduate students who have not taken introductory English writing courses at Florida Tech
  • Students whose second language is English (ESL) who need directed instruction in mastering English grammar
  • Students who desire to work in peer-writing workshops, including writing groups for undergraduate and graduate students
  • Undergraduate and graduate student tutors who receive professional development and training
