Why Florida Tech

A small, private research university located on Florida’s sunny Space Coast, Florida Institute of Technology is home to world-class faculty and relentlessly curious students who learn best by doing. Our roots are in space, and our vision reaches beyond it. As Florida’s STEM university, we’re hands-on, innovative and strong in majors across all disciplines.

Florida Tech is a Tier 1 Best National University (U.S. News & World Report), a Top 20 Technical Institute (Fiske Guide to Colleges) and a College of Distinction (Colleges of Distinction).

The Major You Want

There are many paths you can take to achieve your dream of making a difference through medicine, and they’re all available at Florida Tech.

Our premed track degree programs are designed to help you gain admission to the medical school of your dreams after you graduate. Working with our designated premed advisor, you take the courses, participate in the activities, connect with the organizations and build the résumé required to show you’re ready for entrance into a competitive med-school program.

If you decide halfway through your degree that med school isn’t for you, all of these programs will also prepare you for a career in research, education or industry—you’re covered either way.

Location Advantage

The tight-knit Space Coast community provides Florida Tech students with ample opportunities to network and interact with the local medical community and to become engaged in high-level medical research or clinical immersion experiences.

By combining the high-powered research facilities of a large university with the faculty mentorship of a small private college, Florida Tech gives you the opportunity to build valuable hands-on experience and expertise in the field that matters most to you.

More To Look Forward To

A premed internship, often volunteering at local hospitals and shadowing practicing physicians, is one of the central parts of the learning experience for Florida Tech students seeking to pursue work in medicine-related fields after college.

In addition, all undergraduates participate in research, many joining cutting-edge faculty research teams, working side by side with experienced professors to conduct original research.

Beyond the classroom, students build leadership and professional experience by participating in academic organizations like Beta Beta Beta (TriBeta, the biological sciences honor society), the Premed Club, student government and over 100 other student organizations.
