FAQ

Is Behavior Analysis Essentials: A 40-hour Behavior Technical Training provided by the BACB®?

This training program is offered independent of the BACB. The BACB does not offer an RBT training program.

Is this course 100% online?

Yes!  All coursework is online and may be completed at your own pace within 180 days of starting the course.

What is the RBT® credential?

RBT stands for Registered Behavior Technician®. RBTs are paraprofessionals who work directly with clients implementing behavior analytic services under the supervision of a qualified BCBA® or BCaBA®.

The RBT credential is offered by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board® (BACB) which allows RBTs to work nationwide and in specific countries.

The Behavior Analysis Essentials training course is a noncredit course and is offered independant of the BACB.

Why should I become an RBT?

The RBT credential indicates to employers and consumers of behavior analytic services that the paraprofessional has received specific training in evidence-based procedures. Many organizations and third-party billers require this credential. The field of Behavior Analysis is growing rapidly and is in demand across many industries; becoming an RBT is the perfect starting point!

What are the requirements for the RBT credential?

RBT Credential requirements are established by the BACB and include:

  1. Age and Education: The Applicant must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent prior to beginning the training.
  2. Training: Applicants must complete a 40-hour training covering the RBT task list, relevant ethical code elements and an overview of the BCBA, BCaBA, and RBT roles.
    • Applicants may not begin training until the age and education requirements are met.
    • The training must be completed within 180 days after beginning.
  3. Competency Assessment: After you complete the required 40-hour training, you must demonstrate that you can competently perform the tasks outlined in the RBT Initial Competency Assessment, performed at your place of employment.
  4. Background Check: Applicants must pass a criminal background check.

Please refer to the RBT Handbook for further information on these requirements, https://www.bacb.com/rbt/.

How old do I need to be to take the RBT course?

You must be 18 years of age prior to starting the course.

Is the behavior-based Competency Assessment included in Behavior Analysis Essentials: A 40-hour Behavior Technical Training?

No. Behavior Analysis Essentials includes only the 40-hour training required to qualify for the RBT Credential. A qualified supervisor must administer the competency assessment. Please visit the BACB website for additional information and refer to the RBT Handbook for further information on this requirement - https://www.bacb.com/rbt/.

Does completing Behavior Analysis Essentials mean I am certified or registered as an RBT?

No. Completing just the 40-hour training does not make one an RBT. Our 40-hour training is one requirement of several required by the BACB.  The RBT Credential requires additional steps, including a behavior-based competency exam to be completed with a qualified supervisor and the BACB's RBT exam.  Please refer to the RBT Handbook for further information on this requirement - https://www.bacb.com/rbt/.
