Civic Engagement

What is the Civic Engagement Initiative?

Civic Engagement is any action a group or individual takes to help better one's community and improve the quality of life for those on it. There are seven core areas of civic engagement: social responsibility, advocacy & education, philanthropic giving, direct service, political involvement, community research, and association involvement. Being a civically engaged citizen can be as simple as offering a neighborly wave or as complex as leading a community involvement project.

Florida Tech's Civic Engagement Initiative (CEI) was established in 2006 to connect Florida Tech individuals to their greater Melbourne and global communities. CEI serves as the bridge between academic learning and fulfilling real-life experiences.

Civic Engagement's Mission

Florida Tech's Civic Engagement Initiative seeks to provide opportunities for students, faculty, and staff on our campus and in the surrounding community. We will match community needs with student and employee interests as well as develop individual and collective actions designed to identify and address issues of public concern.
