Bio

I am curious about the properties and processes of ices in the outer Solar System, in particular in the rings of Saturn.

My interest in space dates back to kindergarten, when I saw the flight of Gemini 8 on black and white TV. I grew up in Waynesville North Carolina and graduated from Tuscola Senior High School in 1977. I received a B.S. in physics from Western Carolina University in 1981, and an M.S. in physics from East Carolina University in 1985. My thesis was on atomic collisions. I began my career in space launch as an associate systems analyst for RCA at Patrick AFB in 1985, and I retired as chief scientist from MEI in 2021. I have a NASA Manned Spaceflight Awareness Certificate of Appreciation, a NASA Range Safety Award, and I was elected to the National Space Club Hall of Fame in 2017.

Fun Fact: I am the last of the RCA Range Rats at FIT.
