This series of three courses helps you develop advanced skills in writing, editing and presenting complex information for general and professional audiences.

You’ll learn to craft accurate and engaging science news, prepare effective funding proposals and edit technical and scientific materials for publication.

Students who want to delve deeper into research or focus on an applied approach may choose to complete a traditional, research-based thesis or a design project.

Both options allow students to focus on a specific area of interest. The thesis emphasizes scholarly research and is ideal preparation for doctoral study, while the design project centers on solving a real-world communication challenge in business, industry, government or education.

Each option deepens understanding of communication strategy and problem-solving in global contexts.

We welcome applicants from a wide range of academic backgrounds. A bachelor’s degree is required, but your major does not need to be in communication. Those with majors in other fields, such as biological sciences, business, computer science, engineering, English, journalism, management, psychology and physical and social sciences are all encouraged to apply.
