Florida Tech prepares graduate students for careers in education through hands-on experiences that go beyond the classroom.

Opportunities include research, internships and professional association meetings and conferences. Students are encouraged to present their work at state and national meetings—such as those hosted by the National Science Teachers Association, the Southeastern Association for Science Teacher Education and the National Association for Research in Science Teaching, and to submit their findings for publication.

Research is an important part of the M.Ed. experience at Florida Tech, especially for students who choose to pursue it more deeply through elective coursework.

Graduate students can explore research topics that align with their professional interests—such as learning strategies, classroom management, assessment or STEM education—while building skills in inquiry and evaluation.

This program welcomes teachers from all grade levels and subject areas. A bachelor’s degree is required, though it does not need to be in education.

Careers in Education

Many students in the Master of Education, M.Ed., program are already K–12 teachers seeking to deepen their expertise and expand their impact. Therefore, this program is designed to provide strong preparation for advancement in education careers rather than leading to specific certification or license.

This degree can support advancement into roles such as instructional coach, curriculum specialist or school administrator, as well as open doors to teaching at the college level or in online and adult education settings.

Graduates also pursue opportunities beyond the classroom, including positions in museums, science centers, nonprofit outreach, government education programs and corporate training. Those with a focus in STEM or environmental education may find especially strong demand.

Advanced Degree Options

In addition to the options for education careers, some M.Ed. graduates continue their education at Florida Tech to obtain an Ed.S. or Ph.D. Doctoral graduates may continue into academia as college professors or bring their expertise into the workforce as consultants.

The Education, M.Ed., Curriculum

Florida Tech’s Master of Education, M.Ed., program offers students a unique curriculum that blends educational content, teaching methodology and management expertise, designed to build upon your prior knowledge and experience. It offers a strong foundation in educational research, statistics and current theories and trends in education.

Through an array of electives, you can explore a variety of focus areas, including teaching strategies for specific subjects and grade levels, classroom management, educational assessment and ESOL methods. The curriculum also offers opportunities to study instructional design, educational technologies and online learning.

For those interested in science or environmental education, several electives cover methods for teaching science, addressing environmental issues, and fostering environmental responsibility. These options allow students to tailor their studies to align with their interests and career goals in education.

As a culminating experience, during your last semester of registration you will take an oral final program examination.
