Research
Dr. El-Khouri's research interests involve the study of Marine Microbiology - examining deep-ocean microbes (bacteria, archaea, and benthic fungi) that reside in cold seeps and hydrothermal vents, with a focus on Rusticles from the RMS Titanic. Interdisciplinary evaluation of such extremophiles allows for the identification of novel pharmaceuticals, with further implications on the emerging field of Astrobiology.
