CPT John Carpenter
Captain John Carpenter, a native of Saint Cloud, Florida, commissioned as an Engineer Officer in the United States Army Reserve in December 2018. He is a graduate of the Florida Institute of Technology, holding a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
Assignments: Captain Carpenter’s assignments reflect a career of progressive leadership and technical growth. As a Platoon Leader with the 689th Engineer Company, Captain Carpenter deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, where he enhanced his platoon's readiness, leading to their successful execution of patrol and security missions throughout the Eastern Syrian Security Area. He then served as the Executive Officer for the 766th Engineer Construction Company, directing quality and safety enforcement for major construction projects, notably in support of the FORSCOM Petroleum Training Module, while simultaneously managing the unit’s maintenance and supply programs. Upon his promotion to Captain, he was appointed as a Facilities Contract Construction Management Engineer with the 604th Forward Engineer Support Team - Advance. In this advanced role, he served for six months as the acting Team Leader—a position above his grade—and provided pivotal general engineering support to the 412th Theater Engineer Command General Engineering Operations Center during Exercise Keen Edge 2026. Currently, Captain Carpenter serves as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at the Florida Institute of Technology, where he is dedicated to mentoring and developing the next generation of Army officers.
Education: Captain Carpenter's military education includes the Engineer Basic Officer Leaders Course (Commandant’s List), Engineer Captains Career Course (Superior Academic Achievement), and Field Force Engineering Base Camp Master Planning Course.
Awards: Captain Carpenter’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal (with Campaign Star), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (with "M" Device), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon, and the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (Gold).
Captain Carpenter resides in Melbourne, Florida, with his wife, Jordan, and their son, Sonny. In his civilian capacity, he serves as a Principal Electronics Engineer at Northrop Grumman. He enjoys home improvement projects, serving at his church, and spending time with family and friends.
