Personal Overview

Dr. Luis Daniel Otero is a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering and Sciences at Florida Institute of Technology (Florida Tech), Melbourne, FL. Prior to joining Florida Tech, Dr. Otero served as software/systems engineer for major defense contractors, research assistant in the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) at the University of South Florida (USF), National Science Foundation (NSF) graduate fellow at USF, and structural engineer at Ingalls Shipbuilding. 

Dr. Otero’s research interests relate to the areas of data analytics, performance analysis/improvement of mission critical systems, and systems engineering. His research efforts have resulted in competitive research grants at federal, state, and industry levels. Dr. Otero has authored over 50 technical publications in scientific peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings (e.g., IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, IEEE Systems Journal, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, IEEE Access Journal, Expert Systems with Applications, and International Journal of Forecasting). He is also an active reviewer of several journal publications and leading conferences in decision-making and systems engineering. Dr. Otero is an active Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE Senior Member).
