All injured workers must contact their supervisor/employer immediately to notify them of any on-the-job injury. Timely reporting of employee injuries is crucial. All incidents must be reported to the Office of Legal and Compliance in a timely manner. Once the incident is reported, the Insurance specialist, and adjuster will assist with the workers' compensation process.

There are many times a person is injured at work without requiring immediate medical attention, so it might seem like a good idea to take a wait and see approach and not mention the incident. However, when an accident is not reported on time, an employer can deny you medical treatment and benefits for missed time from work. Report an accident to your employer immediately, even if you think you are not seriously hurt. By reporting the accident, you protect yourself.

What to do if you're injured at work

1. Report your injury immediately to your supervisor and the Office of Legal and Compliance

2. Document the Details:

Be prepared to provide the following information and complete and injury packet provided by the Office of Legal and Compliance:

1. - Location, Time, and date of injury
  - Description of how the injury occurred and description of the injury
  - Name of any witnesses

3. Obtain Medical Treatment

The Office of Legal and Compliance will coordinate medical treatment through an authorized worekrs' compensation medical provider.

Medical Emergency?

Call 911 immediately.
Notify the Florida Tech Security Department as soon as possible.

3. Wage replacement benefits

If your authorized treating physician places you out of work due to a compensable workers' compensation injury:

Wage replacement benefits generally begin on the 8th day of disability.
Benefits are generally paid at 66 2/3% of your average weekly wage, subject to Florida workers' compensation laws.
Employees may use accrued sick, vacation, or personal leave, if available, to supplement income in accordance with University policies.

4. Returning to Work

Submit your return to work release from the treating physician to the Office of Legal and Compliance.
If the physician issues work restrictions, promptly provide those restrictions to your supervisor and the Office of Legal and Compliance.
Employees must comply with any temporary work restrictions established by the authorized treating physician.
