Can your work-life balance affect your mental health and well-being, especially in our fast-paced world today? 

India researchers studied this balance in 390 people taking the metro train to work in the 
information technology industry. They measured three key areas: how work affects personal life, how personal life affects work, and how the two can support each other. They also examined mental health factors like self-acceptance, relationships, independence, and feeling in control. Participants completed a survey asking questions about their work stress, work-life balance, and mental well-being. 

Results? People who had a better work-life balance (able to respond to work demands in addition to home, outside activities, exercise, and hobbies) reported better psychological well-being. In
contrast, poor balance increased work stress, which had a negative impact on their mental health. Occupational stress (not personal stresses) partly explained the link between work-life balance 
and psychological well-being, highlighting its key role.

 

Conclusions? Prioritizing work-life balance is essential for our mental health. Organizations! Encourage this balance to help improve employee well-being. Take periodic, brief “Five Minute 
Vacation Breaks” to exercise, relax, read, or view something uplifting. Enhance your mental health with better work-life balance!
