Items to Bring

Preparing for college means packing smart, and that starts with understanding what you'll need for life in Florida.

Climate & Weather Essentials
Florida’s weather is warm, humid, and unpredictable at times. Expect winter temperatures to range from the mid-30s to low 80s °F (1–27°C), and summer highs to reach up to 95°F (35°C). Pack lightweight, breathable clothing for the heat, but don’t forget a medium-weight jacket or coat for the occasional chilly winter day. We also recommend bringing a few sweaters, gloves, a raincoat, and an umbrella—Melbourne sees about 40 inches (1,016 mm) of rain annually.

Health & Wellness Must-Haves
If you take prescription medications or wear glasses or contacts, be sure to bring a copy of your prescriptions with you. You should also pack copies of your medical records, especially your immunization records.

Florida Tech requires all students to show documented proof of immunization for measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR). If you don’t have this documentation, you’ll need to get vaccinated locally before you’re allowed to register for classes.

If Living on Campus:

It is important to review the University Housing and Living Guide to see all information regarding living on campus. All students should familiarize themselves with the policies and procedures of the university which can be found in Florida Tech Student Handbook. Students residing in university housing are responsible for knowing and following all the information provided in this University Housing Living Guide and the Campus Housing Contract.
