Intern Housing Program

The Intern Housing Program is a short-term housing program for students from other colleges and universities coming to Melbourne, Florida, for Summer Internships.

Please note that current Florida Tech students are not eligible for the Intern Housing Program and must contact Housing with all summer housing questions.

Are you an intern in the Melbourne, Florida area? If so, Florida Tech has everything you need: a comfortable apartment, private bedroom, private bathroom, Internet, pool access, and more.

To check availability for summer intern housing, contact the Housing Department at (321) 674-8870 or housing (at) fit (dot) edu. Interns will register online and must commit to University Terms and Conditions.  A full $500 deposit payment via credit card is due at the time of registration.

About Panther Bay: This modern, three-story, air-conditioned, furnished, apartment-style residence hall is located two miles from campus just east of the Babcock Road – Palm Bay Road intersection; the entrance is off the north side of Palm Bay Road. Panther Bay includes such amenities as an outdoor swimming pool, picnic tables, and barbeque grills.

About the Apartments: The apartment includes five bedrooms with one extra-long twin bed per bedroom. Each bedroom also has its own bathroom with a sink, shower, and toilet. The apartment also includes a living/dining area and full kitchen (no cookware/dishes/utensils), a washer and dryer, and wireless Internet.

Interns are assigned a bedroom but may request an apartment roommate(s). Housing reserves the right to make all housing assignments according to space availability.

Interns will need to provide their own bed linens, blankets, pillows, and towels.  Interns are to maintain clean, safe, and orderly living conditions.

Check-in and Check-out Dates:   Intern housing opening and closing are subject to apartments' availability and the Florida Tech academic calendar. For Summer 2023 the earliest move-in date is Friday, May 19. The last move-out date is Sunday, July 30. For questions about housing dates, contact the Housing Department.

Rent and Payment Information:   Rent is $235 per person per week, and this rate DOES NOT include state and local taxes. A $500 deposit made by credit card is required to complete the housing application. The total balance (minus the deposit) is due within the first two weeks of moving in.

Payment Options:

IN PERSON - Cashier hours of operation are Monday - Friday from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM. Located in the L3Harris Commons Building. 3011 S Babcock St, Melbourne, FL 32901.

BY MAIL - Payment by check can be mailed to Student Accounting (Address below). Make checks payable to the Florida Institute of Technology, and be sure to include the intern's complete name and ID number.

Cancellation Policy:   For a refund of your housing deposit must be made via email (housing (at) fit (dot) edu). Refunds are paid via check and may take 6-8 weeks to process. Cancellation requests must be sent no less than ten days before the planned arrival date for a full refund minus processing charges.

Refund Policy for Date Change:   Any changes to the dates of your internship that would result in a later arrival or earlier departure than your originally reserved dates must be communicated in writing via email (housing (at) fit (dot) edu). Any possible refund will be decided on a case-by-case basis. Be sure to discuss your internship and housing dates with your employer as soon as possible to avoid such situations.  Refunds, if granted, are paid via check and may take 6-8 weeks to process.

Smoking:   Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside campus residential buildings.

Parking:   You must register your vehicle with the Florida Tech Security Office. You will receive a parking permit that must be displayed in your vehicle while on campus.  There is a one-time $25 charge for a parking sticker.

Pets:  For health, sanitation, public safety, and in consideration of others, pets of any sort are prohibited.  Should this policy be violated, a fine of $150 will be assessed, and the intern will be instructed to remove the pet from Florida Tech premises within 24 hours. Failure to remove the pet/or pay the fine will result in the University removing the animal at the intern's expense and losing their summer intern housing at Florida Tech. Any damage, cleaning, or pest control costs associated with the presence of an unauthorized pet will be billed to the intern.
