Makaila Johnson
Bio
Meet Makaila! She is a junior studying Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering & Science.
From Rockledge, Florida, Makaila chose Florida Tech because, as a local student interested in engineering, she had the opportunity to dual enroll during her senior year of high school. The culture of innovation and supportive community reinforced her belief that she was meant to attend Florida Tech. She also appreciated the small class sizes and the unique opportunities offered on the Space Coast.
As a President’s Ambassador, Makaila is excited to serve the community and give back to the campus that has provided her with so much growth and support. She hopes to share her love of the university with others while further developing her leadership and professional skills.
After graduation, she plans to pursue a master's degree in Aerospace Engineering and work in the Brevard County space industry.
Her favorite thing about Florida Tech: “The approachability of opportunities. I have walked into professors' offices or university partners' facilities and simply asked for opportunities to contribute and learn. This college is unique in the fact that opportunity is simply an email away. Everyone on campus is eager to advance our growing world, and it is evident from our culture of excellence and open access to opportunities. And Global Kitchen nights at PDH, where campus dining features all kinds of exotic and unique foods themed to different destinations around the world.”
Her involvement at Florida Tech: Florida Tech NASA Lunabotics Team (Lead of Finance), Residence Life, Society of Women in Engineering, Swim Club
Her involvement off-campus: NASA Pathways Intern at Johnson Space Center
