Makaila Johnson

Meet Makaila! She is a senior studying Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering & Science.

From Merritt Island, Florida, Makaila chose Florida Tech because, as a local student interested in engineering, she had the opportunity to dual enroll during her senior year of high school. The culture of innovation and supportive community reinforced her belief that she was meant to attend Florida Tech. She also appreciated the small class sizes and the unique opportunities offered on the Space Coast.

As a returning President’s Ambassador, Makaila hopes to help students explore and connect with opportunities, and to learn about new ways to get involved on campus to eventually make their way into their intended field.

After graduation, she plans to work at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center as a mechanical engineer and pursue a master’s degree.

Her favorite thing about Florida Tech: “My favorite thing at Florida Tech is to make new crafts in the library's Craft Lab.”

Her involvement at Florida Tech: Residence Life

Her involvement off-campus: NASA Pathways Intern at Kennedy Space Center (and previously at Johnson Space Center)

In her free time: “I love to read and explore, as well as find new coffee shops to study at in the area.”
