Policy Purpose

This policy establishes who is authorized to expend funds on Flowers and Gifts for university employees and establishes the situations in which those are appropriate.

Policy Statement

In the event of a birth or adoption of a child to a member of faculty or staff (with the exception of temporary and student employees), the Office of Human Resources will send an appropriate, congratulatory floral arrangement to the home or hospital on behalf of "Florida Tech Faculty and Staff."

In the event of a hospitalization or death of an employee or of an employee’s immediate family member as defined in the Bereavement Policy, the Office of Human Resources will send an appropriate floral arrangement or monetary contribution on behalf of "Florida Tech Faculty and Staff."

Procedures/Guidelines

The employee's department is responsible for notifying the Office of Human Resources of the event to be acknowledged and any special requests (such as monetary contribution in lieu of flowers). There is a 50-dollar maximum limit for both monetary contributions and floral arrangements.

For flowers, the Office of Human Resources will place the order with a local florist, providing the information from the employing department.

For monetary contributions, the Office of Human Resources will coordinate the donation to the charitable organization.
