NSF Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research (RECR) for Faculty, Staff and Students
For NSF proposals submitted on or after July 31, 2023, all faculty and other senior personnel named on the proposal must complete an approved form of RECR Training before any funding can be awarded. Postdocs, grad students and undergraduates are also still required to complete RCR training before conducting NSF-supported research.

CITI RCR Training is required in conjunction with in person training.

This policy also applies to any other NIH-funded programs supporting research training, career development, or research education that require instruction in responsible conduct of research as stated in the relevant funding opportunity announcements.

Research Security Training
Section 10634, Research Security Training Requirements for Federal
Research Award Personnel, of the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022 (42 U.S.C. § 19234)
establishes a government-wide research security training requirement for federally funded
research and development awards. Research Security training is required for all proposers PI, Co-PI, and individuals identified as senior/key personnel, no later than 12 months before the proposal submission.
- The Research Security training is required for proposals submitted to NSF, USDA, DOE, and DOD.
- The Research Security training will be required for proposals submitted to NIH and NASA from May 25, 2026, and August 5, 2026, respectively.
