Policy Purpose

This policy conveys the examinations for which students can request transfer credit at Florida Tech and the general standards for these exams.

Policy Scope

This policy applies to all prospective and current undergraduate students.

Policy Statement

Florida Tech will award transfer credit from the following examinations as reviewed and determined by the academic faculty. Limitations are listed with each exam. All exams listed below are excluded from the three-course limit for study at another institution that otherwise applies to courses taken at other institutions.

  • ACE Exam Credit
    • Credit is only considered for Military Course Completions when listed on an official ACE SMARTS or AARTS transcript or for Military Training Credit listed on an official Coast Guard Institute transcript.
    • Credit is awarded based on ACE recommendation and Florida Tech transfer credit policy.
    • Students are expected to take any ACE examinations before enrollment at Florida Tech. A student may take these examinations to use for transfer credit while enrolled only with the written permission of their major department head and college dean.
  • Advanced Placement (AP)
    • Only scores of 3 and higher will be accepted
  • Assessment and Qualification Alliance (AQA)
    • Credit is only awarded for grades of C and higher
  • Cambridge A-Level
    • Credit is only awarded for scores of C and higher
  • Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE)
    • Credit is awarded for the CAPE examinations when units are completed with grades of 1, 2, or 3
  • College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)
    • Credit is awarded based on American Council on Education (ACE)-recommended score and Florida Tech transfer credit policy.
    • Students are expected to take any CLEP examinations before enrollment at Florida Tech. A student may take these examinations to use for transfer credit while enrolled only with the written permission of their major department head and college dean.
  • DANTES
    • Credit is considered for DANTES examinations listed on an official DANTES transcript. Students are expected to take any DANTES examinations before enrollment at Florida Tech. A student may take these examinations to use for transfer credit while enrolled only with the permission of their major department head and college dean.
    • Residency requirements apply when requesting to take DANTES examinations.
  • Edexcel Foundation
    • Credit is only awarded for scores of C and higher
  • International Baccalaureate (IB)
    • Credit is awarded for the International Baccalaureate standard-level examinations when a diploma is awarded (higher level for foreign languages).
    • Credit is only awarded for scores of 4-7.
  • Northern Ireland Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA)
    • Credit is only awarded for scores of C and higher
  • Oxford, Cambridge and RSA (OCR)
    • Credit is only awarded for scores of C and higher
    • Credit is only awarded for scores of C and higher
  • Welsh Joint Education Committee (WJEC)

Procedures/Guidelines

The undergraduate curriculum committee makes recommendation to the Office of the Provost regarding all exams and exam scores to accept for university transfer credit.

Students requesting to earn transfer credit by examination must have all official documents sent directly to the Registrar’s Office.

Once received, the documents will be evaluated for credit based on the standards set by the academic faculty and will be added to the student’s record.

Responsibilities

The Undergraduate Curriculum Committee is responsible for making recommendation to the Provost regarding all exams and exam scores to accept for university transfer credit.

Transfer Credit Evaluators are responsible to review official exam documents received, determine transfer credit to award according to this policy, enter any credit awarded into the Student Information System and then send notification to the student of the credit awarded.
