On-Campus Employment

In general, you may work on campus as long as you are maintaining your F-1 status, and you do not work more than 20 hours per week while school is in session. The “20-hour-per-week” limit on your employment applies to all types of on-campus employment, including college role and assistantship positions. You may be employed full time during holidays and vacation periods, provided you intend to register for the next school term.

Work performed on university grounds is considered "on-campus employment" as long as the position provides direct services to students. Some examples of on-campus employment include positions in the following departments:

  • Clemente Center
  • Panther Dining Hall
  • Evans Library
  • Florida Tech Bookstore
  • Academic departments

While immigration regulations provide a variety of opportunities for you to be employed during your time in F-1 status, working without authorization is a serious violation of your status. You should therefore consult with ISSS before accepting any employment.
